Love Kindness Meditation

Love Kindness is one of the meditations which is used to encourage to gather the attention and attentiveness transmuting the feelings to our heart. Compassion or bigheartedness meditation is the other name to it .One can itself intoxicate themselves from the negativeness and encircle them with the love and kindness all around. This meditation includes the feeling of setting yourself free from any artificial thoughts and making strong enough beyond any judgments. In loving-kindness meditation there are many versions of this simple practice from teachers such as Pema Chodron , Jon kabat-zinn,  Sharon Salzberg and more. This type of meditation is an offering from Buddhist tradition. It is widely used by people of many faiths and is also often the meditation of choice for people studying. The health impacts of meditation it is highly accessible and adaptable with constant encouragement. Loving- Kindness meditation uses a set of words and associated thoughts and images to guide us. As we begin practicing a meditation like this we may gradually deepen the exercise integrating the words as a deeper and deeper experience. Love Kindness Meditation

First find yourself in a comfortable position standing seated or lying down as you like take a breath in and out and simply notice your thoughts. Take another deep breath in and out bring yourself to the present moment. First direct your thoughts and intentions towards yourself and repeat the following using your inner voice “May I be filled with loving-kindness, May I be safe from inner and outer dangers, May I be well from body and mind, May I be at ease and happy. After this draw to mind a person you hold dear or to whom you feel easy love or gratitude”. Repeat the following using your inner voice “May you be filled with loving-kindness, May you be safe from inner and outer dangers, May you be well from body and mind, May you be at ease and happy. After this draw to mind a person you hold dear or to whom you feel easy love or gratitude”. Next move to a person who is neutral for you maybe a stranger or someone for whom there’s no strong feeling one way or another “May you be filled with loving-kindness, May you be safe from inner and outer dangers, May you be well from body and mind, May you be at ease and happy. May you be filled with loving kindness”.

Now bring to mind a person for whom you feel some discord or discomfort maybe anger hold them in your mind and repeat the following using your inner voice “May you be filled with loving-kindness, May you be safe from inner and outer dangers, May you be well from body and mind, May you be at ease and happy. May you be filled with loving kindness”. Finally we direct our words and intentions to all people and all beings “May you be filled with loving-kindness, May you be safe from inner and outer dangers, May you be well from body and mind, May you be at ease and happy. May you be filled with loving kindness”. Another breath in and out brings you to the present moment. There can come a threshold point where you can get stuck and might think of something different, then you can dedicate in mindfulness.
